An 18-year-old from Lyons, Georgia, has been charged in connection with a shooting that took place this past Sunday near a youth detention center. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has confirmed that Yadreka Porter faces charges of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and making a false statement after an incident that occurred at the Claxton Regional Youth Detention Center.
According to a release from the GBI, the Evans County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance with the shooting investigation after a vehicle was seen driving by the facility when its passenger discharged a firearm towards the building. While juveniles were outside for recreation, no injuries were fortunately reported. The police apprehended Porter shortly after the vehicle was stopped by officers from the Claxton Police Department.
The incident took place around 10:10 A.M. on Sunday, and following the swift action of local law enforcement, Porter was booked into the Tattnall County Jail. As the GBI investigation continues, further details about the motive and circumstances leading up to the shooting remain unclear. Once the GBI concludes its investigation, the case file will be handed over to the Atlantic Circuit District Attorney’s Office, which will then proceed with the prosecution.
