Motorists in Wilkins and Turtle Creek, take note: Starting at 9 a.m. on Monday, July 7, the Penn Avenue Extension will be closed. The stretch between Aliquippa Street and the Tri-Boro Expressway (Route 130) won't reopen until October.
The Department of Public Works made this announcement, and it's all because the road is getting a facelift—well, more like major surgery. They're going to construct a retaining wall, lay down new pavement, reconstruct sidewalks, do some utility work, and replace the guide rail around Aliquippa Street.
According to Allegheny County's press release, drivers will need to quickly adjust their routes. Detours will reroute traffic through Graham Boulevard, William Penn Highway, Beulah Road (Route 130), Brown Avenue (Route 130), and Tri-Boro Expressway (Route 130). It's going to be a bit of a maze out there, so plan accordingly.
