Tragedy struck in Phoenix as a man died and a woman sustained injuries in one of two large house fires yesterday. According to FOX 10 Phoenix, firefighters first responded to a blaze near 47th Avenue and Cactus Road around 6:00 p.m. Simultaneously, a second nearby fire began, igniting an RV, a home, and a boat around 41st Avenue and Greenway.
At the scene of the first horrific fire, a man was discovered unconscious and without a sign of breath. Despite the efforts to quickly to intervene, he was pronounced dead at the site. "When crews arrived, the man was reportedly found unconscious and not breathing," Phoenix Fire Captain Todd Keller informed AZ Family. The woman with him was transported to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries, while a third occupant of the residence was unharmed.
The second blaze, around two miles from the first, caused multiple explosions that were captured on camera. This incident originated inside an RV parked on a residential property, with flames subsequently spreading to the adjacent home and a boat. Both Phoenix and Glendale Fire departments worked in concert to douse the flames, ensuring no injuries occurred in this second incident, as reported by Phoenix Fire Captain Todd Keller, via FOX 10 Phoenix.
Investigators are now tasked to piecemeal together what caused both fires. The home located at 47th Avenue and Cactus Road was noted as a total loss, with Keller stating it's unclear where exactly the fire began or how. "It’s unclear where in the house the fire started or how the fire started," Keller told AZ Family. As the community waits for insights into these tragic events, the tangible cost of the damages and the immeasurable loss of life mark a somber moment for the city of Phoenix.
