In Marietta, a time-honored tradition continues as the local Fire Department readies to welcome two new fire engines with a ceremonial nod to firefighting history. According to a statement from the City of Marietta, a “Push-In Ceremony” is set to take place at Fire Station 55 on August 5, marking the arrival of the new additions to the fleet. This quintessentially firefighter ritual has roots in the 19th century, echoing a time when engines were propelled by horses and muscle rather than motors.
The ceremony is not only to celebrate, but also to symbolically usher in the 2025 KME engines. Acquired for an impressive 24% below the existing market price, these engines were each procured at around $680,000 using SPLOST funds. This purchase reflects a proactive step taken by the City's officials to keep their emergency response vehicles up to date and functioning at peak efficiency for the community they serve.
Marietta's newest engines boast advanced technologies and updated equipment, a collaborative effort between the City’s Fleet Division and IT Department. This integration is designed to enable firefighters to respond more swiftly and effectively to emergencies. The updates are part of a strategic plan to replace one-third of the City’s front-line engines and should help to maintain operational consistency throughout the Department’s fleet. Station 55, located at 1160 Franklin Gateway, and Station 56 on Sawyer Road will be the home bases for these new vehicles, as detailed by the city's announcement.
