Following over a year of investigation, Lorenzo Gordon, a 38-year-old man suspected of first-degree murder, turned himself in to the U.S. Marshals Service in Memphis. This surrender, as reported by the U.S. Marshals Service's official press release on July 29th, came about after a series of events that began with a tragic incident in Memphis on April 8, 2024.
Responding to reports of gunfire on that fateful day near Danny Thomas Boulevard and Ratliff Road, Memphis Police Department officers arrived to find the body of Laderius Ayers, who had succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds. Investigation by the MPD Homicide Detectives eventually led to the issuance of a warrant for Gordon's arrest on June 27, 2025. Having been convinced to surrender by Task Force Investigators, who contacted his associates, Gordon was taken into custody by the Two Rivers Violent Fugitive Task Force on the afternoon of July 28, 2025.
The USMS urged the assistance of the Two Rivers Violent Fugitive Task Force (TRVFTF), a coalition of law enforcement agents within Western Tennessee, to apprehend Gordon. Their membership, a mix of deputies, police officers, and agents from various county sheriff's departments, the Tennessee Department of Corrections, and the Tennessee Highway Patrol, reveals a collective dedicated to tracking down the region's most dangerous individuals. According to the U.S. Marshals Service, this cooperative force has been responsible for the capture of over 3,000 violent offenders and sexual predators since 2021.
Following his surrender, Gordon was transported to the Shelby County Jail. The circumstances leading to his decision to give himself up underline an effective strategy by the TRVFTF, which involved using personal connections to facilitate compliance with law enforcement. Although the events surrounding Ayers' death and the subsequent apprehension of Gordon add to the somber tapestry of violence, the resolution serves as a testament to the persistence and coordination of multiple law enforcement agencies in their pursuit of justice.
