Memphis has seen yet another collision involving law enforcement, as a Memphis Police Department officer sustained injuries after his vehicle was struck by another car in Whitehaven last night. The incident occurred around 10 p.m. at the intersection of Alice Drive and East Raines Road, according to WREG. Reports indicate that the police officer was responding to an assist call and was not in emergency mode when the crash happened.
A Toyota Corolla failed to heed the stop sign at the intersection which led to the crash with the Dodge Charger patrol vehicle, as reported by Local Memphis; after the initial impact, the officer's car barreled across westbound lanes, hit a curb and then a fence, finally coming to a halt. The officer was subsequently taken to Regional One Hospital and thankfully listed in non-critical condition.
Further details from FOX13 Memphis revealed that dashcam video from the officer’s vehicle captured the Toyota Corolla as it ran through the stop sign, leading to the incident. Both vehicles sustained significant damage and had to be towed from the scene.
The driver of the Toyota has been cited for several infractions, including disregarding a stop sign, lacking financial responsibility, and improper state registration.
