Authorities are currently searching for suspects involved in a shooting incident outside the Happy Mexican restaurant in Cordova. The Memphis Police Department responded to a call regarding shots fired at the venue on Germantown Parkway on Sunday, shortly after 9:00 p.m. A witness in contact with the police observed security personnel pushing two men and two women out of the restaurant following a fight. Action News 5 reported that the altercation escalated outside, leading to the men firing shots.
According to a statement obtained by WREG, the shooting occurred after 11:30 p.m., when a security guard sought to quickly defuse a clash between two women and two men at the restaurant. The guard claimed to see one of the men pull out a gun and begin to shoot at the other individual as soon as they were forced outside. The suspects had fled the scene by the time police arrived.
No victims were hit by the gunfire; however, the bullets did strike a car nearby. One bullet hit an Acura TLX in the trunk and another struck a Hyundai Palisade in the rear passenger window. At present, no suspects are in custody, and the police are urging anyone with information on the incident to reach out to CrimeStoppers. As the investigation progresses, the Memphis Police Department is assembling details about the altercation and subsequent events. A security guard's account to the police, cited by FOX13 Memphis, described breaking up the fight inside the restaurant. Subsequently, once the parties were outside, "someone in that group began shooting." Witnesses reported hearing roughly three gunshots at the scene before the shooters quickly dispersed, leaving before the arrival of law enforcement.
