In a robust crackdown dubbed 'Rolling Thunder', the Memphis Police Department has announced a significant sweep of arrests and seizures, targeting drug traffickers and gangs in the city. The department heralded its achievements in a social media post proclaiming, "These drugs, guns, and criminals have NO PLACE in our neighborhoods."
In their latest operation, Memphis Police have taken into custody a total of 209 individuals, with a striking 196 of those being felony arrests. Among the detained are 42 alleged gang members. The cache of items removed from the streets includes over 150 grams of the potent opioid fentanyl, and more than 20,000 grams of marijuana. Police also reported seizing 58.6 grams of crack, 39.2 grams of powder cocaine, and 116.3 grams of methamphetamine from the drug trade's circulation.
The arsenal recovered in the operation include 44 firearms, with the MPD specifically noting the recovery of 4 illegal switches, devices that convert firearms to fully automatic. Additionally, Memphis Police also reported that 459.4 grams of promethazine and over 800 pills, drugs frequently abused in conjunction with opioids, have been taken out of potential distribution. The initiative also led to the recovery of 17 vehicles. The social media announcement ends on a definitive note, insisting that "Violence and drug trafficking won’t find a safe place in Memphis!"
