Last Saturday, a robbery took place outside Las Margaritas at 948 South Cooper Street. A 68-year-old woman, who had been sleeping on a bench, became the unsuspecting victim of violence and theft. A surveillance video captured the incident, now a point of investigation for local authorities as they seek to apprehend the perpetrator.
According to the Memphis Police Department’s report, the suspect is an unknown male who brazenly approached the woman and struck her. This sudden act of aggression left her in need of medical attention and, subsequently, she was to quickly be transported to the hospital. The criminal's motivations were, clearly, rooted in malice and gain as he snatched the victim’s backpack before fleeing the scene—heading eastbound on Young Avenue toward East Parkway.
The male suspect was notably identifiable by his clothing: a blue hat adorned with the Lone Star flag, a horizontally striped long-sleeved shirt, matched with khaki pants and contrasted by black and white shoes. The Memphis Police are calling on anyone with information that can assist in resolving this case to step forward. As an incentive to galvanize community participation, they have provided contact details for Crime Stoppers, advising informants to call 901-528-CASH.
