Starting from 6 PM yesterday, July 11 and stretching until 2 PM tomorrow, July 13, drivers who frequent Metairie Road in Jefferson Parish will need to find an alternate route, according to the latest announcement from the Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD). The roadwork, part of project H.014773, will completely shutter the eastbound lane of LA 611-9, commonly known as Metairie Road, from Severn Ave through to Johnston St.

Motorists will be particularly affected at the 17th St Canal Bridge where the full closure will also see the left turn lane (U-Turn) to Johnston St out of commission the construction, according to DOTD's announcement, is set to address "concrete pavement patching and related work," however, as is always the case with outdoor work, the timetable remains subject to whims of the weather.

To aid travelers, DOTD has assured that access to driveways within the construction zone will not be hindered throughout the operations; their primary concern is for the safety of both commuters and crews working on the improvements. They have issued a safety reminder, "DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment."
