A violent incident unfolded at a northwest Miami-Dade bus stop where a woman was brutally attacked with a hammer. Bryant Renardo Rose, 29, was arrested and faces an attempted murder charge after assaulting 46-year-old Chinwe Onyiuke, NBC Miami reports.
The attack occurred in the 9600 block of Northwest 27th Avenue. Witnesses watched as Onyiuke was struck multiple times in the head while sitting at a bus bench. The 47-year-old victim was later taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center in critical condition and underwent surgery for her sustained head injuries, Local 10 noted.
Rose turned himself in to the authorities following the attack and was consequently taken into custody. His bond court appearance revealed the severity of the assault, as the judge remarked that he hit Onyiuke 15 times with the hammer. Rose has been appointed a public defender and is being held without bond.
The reports have not disclosed any possible motive for the gruesome attack. Onyiuke, identified as a Florida career offender, had been released from prison in 2015, and it remains unclear how this past may intertwine with the harrowing violence she has endured. As the investigation proceeds, Rose awaits further legal action, denied bond by a judge.
