A man has been charged in relation to a tragic vehicular incident that resulted in a father's death and left another individual severely injured. Andres Fiallo Estupinan, a 36-year-old Miami resident, was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center after a prolonged hospital stay due to injuries sustained during the catastrophic event.
As WSVN reported, Estupinan crashed into several vehicles, including an ice cream truck, at the intersection of Southwest 21st Avenue and 19th Street in the Shenandoah neighborhood on June 10. The violent chain reaction led to the death of Andrew Loretta, 50, who was out jogging when he was struck.
Local10 detailed the harrowing scene, recalling that after being hit from behind by Estupinan's 2012 gray Volkswagen Passat, "The impact of the crash sent the pedestrian, identified as Andrew Loretta, 50, airborne, while severing both of his legs," according to the Miami Police Department. The force inflicted upon Loretta was of such magnitude that he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Post-collision, amidst the chaos, Estupinan reportedly did not attempt to brake before additionally striking a parked Mercedes-Benz. Severely injured, he tried fleeing to a nearby park where, according to the same Local10 report, "several witnesses stopped him and held him down until police arrived." An injured woman from the ice cream truck suffered a skull fracture, was also admitted to the Ryder Trauma Center, along with Estupinan.
Presently confined, Estupinan faces stern allegations including leaving the scene of a crash with fatalities and serious injuries, vehicular homicide, and reckless driving. Online jail records indicate that his bond remains pending.
