The Georgia Department of Corrections has announced a new chapter in leadership for Autry State Prison. Michael Graham will step into the role of Warden, effective July 16, after rising through various corrections roles since 2007. Graham, who currently serves as Deputy Warden of Security at Central State Prison, will be tasked with overseeing a staff responsible for the supervision of approximately 411 male inmates.
According to the official statement from the GDC, Commissioner Tyrone Oliver has expressed confidence in Graham's abilities, noting that he "has worked his way up through the ranks and excelled at each position he has held." The sentiment reflects a belief in continuity and experience within the Georgia correctional system, highlighting Graham's steady ascent. His latest promotion places him at the helm of Autry SP, where he will manage a team responsible for the rehabilitation and security of the incarcerated populace.
Graham launched his career as a Correctional Officer at Telfair State Prison and filled positions across the state including at Montgomery SP, Wilcox SP, Burruss Correctional Training Center, and the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison. His progression has been marked by a sequence of promotions ranging from Sergeant to Lieutenant and up to Unit Manager, before serving as Deputy Warden of Security. The responsibilities he's assumed over the years have molded him into a candidate poised for this new assignment.
Moreover, Graham's academic pursuits in criminal justice administration from Columbus State University complement his practical experience. His departmental training is extensive, featuring a variety of specialized programs such as the Deputy Warden of Security Academy and Warden's Pre-Command, indicative of a thorough preparation for his responsibilities at Autry SP. His extensive background in corrections is aimed to serve him well in maintaining the facility's operational standards and contributing to the overall mission of the GDC.
