The historic Stone Arch Bridge in Minneapolis is set to reopen on August 9, 2025, following extensive renovations. The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) has announced a celebration to mark the occasion, inviting the community to partake in the event slated for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Father Hennepin Bluff Park Bandstand, as stated by an official MnDOT statement.
According to the same announcement, festivities will include a program with speaker remarks and a ribbon-cutting ceremony, commencing precisely at 11 a.m. with regional leaders in attendance. Following the ceremony, the community is encouraged to walk across the bridge into downtown Minneapolis for a blend of food trucks, live entertainment, and interactive activities suitable for all ages that are available on both sides of the river.
MnDOT also notes a schedule update indicating that any remaining construction work after the bridge's initial reopening will likely close out within the following weeks. The completion is anticipated to be final by spring 2026, allowing cyclists and walkers to enjoy uninterrupted access thereafter. Even during construction, the bridge closure allowed pedestrians and cyclists access up to the midpoint, ensuring that the connection between parts of the city, however piecemeal, was maintained.
Significant repair work on the Stone Arch Bridge began back in April 2024. Teams have been busy replacing stones and mortar to slow deterioration and preserve the bridge's overall integrity, MnDOT details.
