The Washington County Sheriff's Office issued a report detailing a successful rescue operation on Wednesday, involving a 75-year-old man who had been reported missing near the 2000 block of SW Scenic Drive in Portland. The elderly individual was considered endangered after leaving his residence on foot around 12:30 pm, without any means of communication, since he did not possess a cell phone.
Despite the potential bleakness of this scenario, the man was equipped with a bracelet from Project Lifesaver, which the Sheriff's deputies utilized in their search and SAR teams, including three K9 units from the Sheriff's Office and a drone team, combined forces with the Columbia County Sheriff's Search and Rescue K9 team to track the man's whereabouts.
The signal emitted by the Project Lifesaver bracelet played a pivotal role in the rescue, leading the deputies to the man's location with assistance from Corporal Akin and K9 Puddles, where he was found to have fallen into a ravine, entangled in dense foliage and unable to extract himself from the precarious situation without help.
Medical assistance was promptly provided by the American Medical Response (AMR) team, who, along with SAR, facilitated a safe extraction of the man; he was subsequently transported to a local hospital for evaluation and care.
