A tragic accident has led to vehicular homicide charges against an 18-year-old Mississippi man following a collision in Nashville. Joshua McNeal was arrested after his involvement in a multi-vehicle crash that claimed the life of a 20-year-old man, according to the Metro Nashville Police Department.
On Wednesday afternoon, the crash occurred on the 2400 block of Brick Church Pike, when McNeal, for reasons not entirely clear, reportedly attempted an ill-advised overtaking maneuver—in his Ram 1500 truck, he sped through the two-way center turn lane and lost control, this is what led to the fatal crash, as reported by FOX 17. A head-on collision ensued as he swerved into the southbound lane, hitting a Honda Civic directly, while a Toyota Camry was also collateral to the calamity, but the driver emerged unscathed.
Police records indicate that McNeal and two passengers sustained minor injuries and received treatment at local hospitals. WKRN notes that the driver of the Honda was transported to TriStar Skyline Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead. His identity has been withheld as authorities work to notify his family.
The Davidson County Jail now lists McNeal among its inmates, having been booked on varying charges once he was discharged from the medical facility—vehicular homicide by reckless conduct, three counts of aggravated assault, and reckless endangerment, which represents the gamut of his alleged disregard for the sanctity of life and public safety. McNeal's bond has been set at $90,000, WSMV reports.
Investigations continue with the MNPD stating there were no signs of impairment from any of the drivers involved in the tragic incident.
