A disturbing incident in Moore resulted in a standoff yesterday after a man locked himself in his home following a report of shots fired in the area. According to OKC FOX, the Moore Police Department said no other injuries were reported, and it is believed the individual may have been experiencing a mental health crisis.
The series of events began when officers responded to a call near NW 26th and Larkspur after 11 a.m., following the injury of a dog due to a gunshot, Moore Police Department confirmed, in a situation that abruptly escalated into an armed standoff. A single pet was found wounded and KOCO 5 reported that the injured dog "has been transported and suffered one gunshot wound. It’s expected to be OK," according to Clint Byley with Moore Police Department.
Police have stated the man involved was detained after the standoff, which saw the deployment of police units and tactical resources, including a drone utilized by the Moore Police Department during the operation. The tactically clad officers, coupled with the drone, marked a high-tension scene within the usually quiet locality, as indicated by the presence of multiple police units.
The suspect, at this time, remains in custody – his future clouded by pending charges that have yet to crystallize into the formal accusations that, could steer his life toward the solemnity of the judicial system. According to KFOR, it is still unclear if charges will be filed against the man who police suspect was in the midst of a mental health crisis at the time of the incident.
