The streets of Nashville continue to face the increasing issue of gun thefts from unsecured vehicles, with a staggering 530 firearms reported stolen thus far in 2025, the local police department confirmed. As a measure of comparison, by the same time last year, the count was at 445, indicating a rising trend that's raising alarms throughout the city.
According to a release on the Nashville Police Department's website, 74% of all guns stolen in Davidson County this year were taken from vehicles. The department urges residents to adopt smarter habits: lock car doors, secure valuables, and always remove keys to thwart opportunistic criminals.
Responding to the criminal pattern, Nashville police began a special initiative back in February 2024. This concerted effort aimed at stamping out the epidemic of vehicular thievery and its dangerous consequences, resulting in 1,336 arrests and the recovery of 733 stolen automobiles and 332 firearms. Just like guns snatched from automobiles, stolen vehicles are commonly deployed in violent incidents, including carjackings and robberies, as per the Nashville Police Department.
