In a disquieting display of youthful recklessness turning violent, 16-year-old Owen Guerrero-Alvarado has been arrested and charged following a robbery that escalated into a shooting in a Walmart parking lot. On the evening of April 30, what started as an intended transaction morphed quickly into a premeditated heist, resulting in two individuals suffering gunshot wounds, as reported by Nashville.gov.
Nashville Police indicated that Guerrero and two cohorts engineered a rendezvous with the two unsuspecting victims –an 18-year-old and a 14-year-old– under the guise of a peaceful exchange. After a brief dialogue that seemed benign, the situation unravelled as Guerrero and his accomplices retrieved their weapons from their car, heralding chaos.
As the chaos unfolded, Guerrero admitted to discharging his firearm, striking one victim in the chest and the other in the leg. The victims, still in the process of recovery, face a long road back from this traumatic encounter. Guerrero is currently being held in Juvenile Court and has been charged with two counts of especially aggravated robbery. Legal proceedings remain ongoing, and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
