
A New Market Township man died following a vehicle crash this past Monday evening. Local authorities confirmed that the incident involved an overturned ATV and a collision with a car on County Road 46.
The Scott County Sheriff's Office 911 Dispatch reported they received a call around 9:54 PM on July 28, about an injury accident. The 28-year-old ATV rider, a resident of New Market Township, apparently lost control of his vehicle and lay injured in the road when a southbound 2014 Cadillac XTS, managed to critically strike him.
"The driver of the Artic Cat was transported to Fairview Ridges Hospital where he was pronounced deceased," according to the Scott County Sheriff's Office. The 22-year-old female who was driving the Cadillac, and from Northfield, was not injured. It was also reported that she was not under the influence of any substances at the time of the crash. Statements from law enforcement confirm that there were no passengers in either vehicle.
Sheriff Luke Hennen offered condolences in a statement, "On behalf of the Scott County Sheriff’s Office, I extend my deepest sympathies to the family of the man who tragically lost his life in this incident. Our hearts go out to the community affected by this heartbreaking loss." The sincerity of condolences often can provide a small solace in the wake of such unexpected tragedies.
Investigations into the crash are ongoing. The Scott County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on the scene by multiple agencies, including the Minnesota State Patrol, Elko New Market Police and Fire Departments, and Northfield Ambulance. The final identification of the deceased will be made by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office. The locals could only wait, as investigations continue to unravel the circumstances leading up to the fatal event.
