The North Las Vegas Police Department will hold its 2025 Citizens Academy, a 10‑week program offering residents a closer look at police operations through ride‑alongs and demonstrations from units including Special Weapons and Tactics, K9, and Narcotics. Chief of Police Jacqueline Gravatt said, “The public’s perception of police officers is often shaped by what they see portrayed in television shows or the news, but the reality of law enforcement’s role in the community is vastly different,” according to the City of North Las Vegas.
The 2025 Citizens Academy will run from August 27 to November 5, with sessions held each Wednesday evening. Participants will hear presentations from divisions including Traffic, Crime Scene Investigations, Communications (Dispatch), and Patrol, and will also have the opportunity to join officers on ride‑alongs, as reported by the City of North Las Vegas.
The North Las Vegas Police Department’s Citizens Academy requires applicants to be at least 18 years old, live or work within city limits, and have no criminal record. A background check will be conducted, and participants must follow a business casual dress code that does not allow jeans, shorts, t‑shirts, open‑toed shoes, or weapons. Space is limited, and applications or inquiries can be made through the NLVPD Community Engagement Division at [email protected] or 702‑633‑1808, as stated by the City of North Las Vegas.
