Over the weekend, a routine patrol in Oakley turned into an arrest after Officer Hernandez spotted a juvenile riding a dirt bike without a helmet or a visible license plate. The encounter occurred last Saturday, around 7:52 PM, according to a social media post from the City of Oakley Local Government. Officer Hernandez attempted to stop the bike, but the rider quickly accelerated, making an evasive maneuver through the Power Market parking lot before being apprehended.

After the short pursuit, the male rider tried to conspicuously duck behind a vehicle on the 200 block of Acme Street, an attempt at subterfuge that Officer Hernandez quickly thwarted. Upon making contact, it was discovered that the rider had what is described as an unloaded and unmarked ghost pistol hidden inside his sweatshirt. The term 'ghost gun' pertains to firearms that lack serial numbers and are often assembled from kits, making them difficult to trace.

What followed was the arrest and a surprising find: the rider was only 17 years old. Typically, cases involving juveniles with firearms are taken seriously, but in this incident, the Oakley Police Department noted that Juvenile Hall did not accept the offender. Instead, he was cited for possession of a concealed firearm, possession of a firearm as a minor, and possession of a ghost gun, before being released to his father's custody.
