During his annual State of the City address, Oklahoma City Mayor David Holt presented the preliminary architectural designs for the Oklahoma City New Arena. Attendees were shown the initial plans for the new NBA arena and entertainment complex, which will be located downtown. The project is part of ongoing efforts to develop the area, according to the City of Oklahoma City.
The planned venue is a collaboration between MANICA Architecture, responsible for the design, and TVS, serving as the architect of record. Mayor Holt described the arena’s design as unique and highlighted the collaborative process involved in its development over recent months. Final approval of the design by the city council is still pending. If approved, Flintco Construction and Mortenson Construction are expected to begin work, aiming for completion by late summer 2028.
The arena includes a 360-degree glass curtain wall for panoramic views and a street-level area called Thunder Alley. The plans also incorporate a grand entrance and a connection to the Myriad Botanical Gardens. The design focuses on community and aims to serve as a center for sports and cultural activities.
Inside, the design focuses on optimizing the basketball experience with improved sight lines and an environment intended to engage both fans and players. MANICA owner David Manica discussed leading the design of the arena as a key project for Oklahoma City and a space for community use. Legends/ASM Global General Manager Chris Semrau noted the arena’s potential to attract high-profile events to the city.
The architectural firms involved in the project have previous experience with large-scale sports and entertainment venues. Kansas City-based MANICA has designed facilities such as the Chase Center in San Francisco and Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. Atlanta-based TVS contributed to projects including the expansion of the Jacob K. Javits Center in New York. Renderings and videos of the current design plans for the Oklahoma City New Arena are available on the city’s website.
