The Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department (OTRD) has officially ceased operations of Lookout Kitchen at state park eateries due to ongoing financial and contractual issues. Following an unsuccessful attempt to resolve matters concerning missed payments, the OTRD decided to shutter these dining facilities indefinitely, a move impacting visitors' dining options across multiple state parks.

According to a news release obtained by KOCO, the OTRD had provided Lookout Kitchen with a formal notice of noncompliance on May 16, giving the company until yesterday, July 7 to settle outstanding financial obligations. Unfortunately, the OTRD indicated that the contractor had failed to fully comply with the request. This has led to a halt in operations at a time when state park visitation often swells with summer travelers.

A prior investigation by FOX 25 highlighted the financial distress of the park's concessions, revealing that Lookout Kitchen was in arrears, reportedly owing $254,943.52. Despite efforts by the OTRD to negotiate and accommodate, the burgeoning debt ultimately led to the department's decision to suspend Lookout Kitchen's operations moving forward.

In the interim, the OTRD is working on providing alternative food service options to mitigate the impact on park visitors. Concessions such as grab & go sandwiches, snacks, and drinks are being considered, along with the potential introduction of food trucks, as reported by FOX23.
