A deadly episode of gun violence rocked a North Riverfront neighborhood on Saturday morning, leaving one man dead and three others injured. Police were summoned to the scene at 9th and Chambers Street around 3:35 a.m., where two 28-year-old men, one later identified as Mar’Kel Jason White of Spanish Lake, MO, were found with gunshot wounds. White was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department.
The second victim of the shooting was transported to a local hospital in a critical and unstable condition; meanwhile, two others, aged 18 and 37, arrived at the hospital separately with gunshot wounds. They were reported to be in stable condition, despite the violence that had ensnared them all. The investigation into this incident is being conducted by homicide detectives, as the community grapples with the fallout.
As authorities work to piece together the chain of events that led to the shooting, family and community members are left mourning the abrupt loss of Mr. White. Detectives have not yet released information regarding a potential motive for the shooting or about any suspects in the case.
