Authorities in Warr Acres have confirmed that one person is now in custody after an earlier standoff this morning. Oklahoma City Police were called to a scene at NW 61st St. and MacArthur Blvd. where, according to KFOR, an individual had potentially barricaded themselves in a vehicle.
The situation escalated, prompting a larger response. OKC FOX reported a heavy police presence at the location with residents advised to keep clear of the area, as officers worked to resolve the situation amid unclear circumstances.
As the standoff continued, the presence of several law enforcement agencies was noticeable, clustering around a home in a northwest Oklahoma City neighborhood. Initially, the the reason for the standoff was unknown. However, information later emerged indicating that the initial response by the officers was due to a reported assault with a deadly weapon. News9 detailed that the suspect was believed to be armed, which added a layer of complexity to the law enforcement's approach.
Ultimately, tear gas was employed by the police to drive the suspect out of the home. Following this action, the individual was successfully taken into custody. The identity of the person arrested has yet to be released pending further investigation. Despite the potential danger, no injuries have been reported in relation to the standoff.
