Heads up, drivers: The eastbound Interstate 70 exit ramp at Foristell is shutting down but just for a short overnight stint. If you're planning to hit the road late Friday, August 8, be prepared to take a detour. According to Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT), the closure will begin at 9 p.m. on Friday and the ramp will reopen the following morning at 9 a.m. on August 9. The reason behind this inconvenience? Crews are installing a culvert essential for the new Foristell interchange, fueling progress for a future third lane in each direction on I-70.
For those traveling eastbound and needing to get off at Foristell during the closure, there's an alternate route: simply exit at Wright City Exit #199, then continue eastbound on Veterans Memorial Parkway, this might add a few minutes to your travel, but it's a small price to pay for improved infrastructure. The culvert installation is a piece of the larger Improve I-70 Warrenton to Wentzville Project which kicked off after its award in November 2024 and will extend through 2028, so keep an eye out for ongoing changes in your travel landscape.
This project is part of a major transportation upgrade in Missouri. The state's FY2024 budget, signed by the governor, allocated $2.8 billion in General Revenue for the I-70 expansion. The plan includes adding a third lane in each direction across nearly 200 miles of roadway from Blue Springs to Wentzville, focusing on infrastructure improvement.
