Commuters in Lexington, Massachusetts, experienced significant delays this morning when a tractor-trailer overturned on a ramp leading to Route 128, spilling loam across the roadway. Massachusetts State Police and local fire crews responded to the scene near mile marker 49 after the accident was reported at 9:48 a.m. Aerial footage captured by Sky5 showed the truck on its side with soil covering the ramp and scattered over the nearby grass area.
The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) has yet to provide an estimate on when the ramp will reopen, hampering the flow of traffic. Meanwhile, heavy-duty tow trucks were dispatched to manage the cleanup and removal of the vehicle, WCVB reports. No injuries have been immediately reported at this time.
According to 7NEWS, the incident occurred on the ramp heading towards Route 128 north, an area known for bustling traffic, particularly during morning hours. Visuals from SKY7-HD showed the extensive spread of loam and the tractor-trailer lying on its side, indicating the potential for an extended cleanup and traffic disruption.
Motorists are urged to seek alternate routes as the situation on the ramp from Bedford Street onto Route 128/Interstate 95 north remains unresolved.
