In a pre-dawn operation, the Portland Police Bureau's Special Emergency Reaction Team (SERT) conducted a tactical arrest yesterday, ending a search for a suspect in connection with a March shooting incident. The Portland Police have apprehended Dashawn D. Clay, a 41-year-old Portland resident, linking him to the gunfire exchange at a business on Northeast 105th Avenue, as reported by the Portland Police Bureau.
Clay was taken into custody near North Gilbert Avenue and North Seneca Street, facing multiple charges stemming from the incident: two counts of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, two counts of Attempted Assault in the First Degree, three counts of Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and one count of Felon in Possession of a Firearm. His arrest was made possible through the investigative efforts of the PPB's Enhanced Community Safety Team (ECST), which managed to not just identify, but also to decisively act upon the suspect.
The original March 18 shooting had fortunately resulted in no injuries, despite a man in dark clothing discharging a firearm several times at the business. Officers had immediately responded to the scene at around 11:30 a.m. after reports of the shooting were received, the bureau detailed in their statement. The police had been on Clay's trail, culminating in the July 1 arrest, which concluded with the seizure of a firearm believed to be the one used during the shooting.
Following the arrest, Clay was transported to the Multnomah County Detention Center, where he now awaits the proceedings of his charges.
