The Portland Police Bureau has recently released the names of the officers involved in the in-custody death of Damon Lamarr Johnson in the Kenton Neighborhood, alongside body-worn camera footage from the incident. According to an update on the Portland Police Bureau's official website, the officers have been identified as Officer J.P. Duque Valencia, with 2.92 years of service, Officer Jason Epton, with 2.53 years, and Officer Travis Wortman, with 1.83 years with the Bureau. All three remain on administrative leave pending the conclusion of the investigation.
The available video material, which was released to the public, starts off with a narrated summary followed by the unedited body-worn camera footage from each involved officer. The intention behind providing chapters in the YouTube video's description is to ease navigation for those viewing the footage. As the investigation is still very much in its nascent stages, the medical examiner is yet to determine the cause and manner of Johnson's death.
With the aim to build a complete narrative of the events leading to Johnson's death, the Portland Police Bureau is seeking additional information. They are asking anyone who may have knowledge of the incident and who has not already been in contact with law enforcement to reach out to Detective Samantha Cater at [email protected] or Detective Brent Christensen at [email protected], or to call 503-823-2087, referencing case number 25-170804.
