A devastating rollover wreck occurred in Miami yesterday evening after a vehicle, reportedly fleeing from a Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office traffic stop, crashed into other cars, causing multiple injuries. WSVN reported that four individuals, including a pregnant woman, were taken to the hospital in critical but stable condition according to the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office, while another individual was evaluated at the scene; Miami Fire Rescue units, who responded to the scene, had to navigate through the chaos of the wreckage, found at the intersection of Northwest 22nd Avenue and 26th Street, with two vehicles visibly damaged, one significantly flipped on its side.
The NBC Miami account detailed that the crash happened shortly after detectives from the sheriff's office's Robbery Intervention Detail attempted a vehicle stop near Northwest 56th Street and 27th Avenue when the driver decided to speed away, driving recklessly, and minutes later, ensued the harrowing collision. The site was a hub of urgency as the Miami Technical Rescue Team employed the jaws of life to cut through the overturned vehicle to extract the victims from the entangled metal.
While the intersection was temporarily closed due to investigation and cleanup, involving the removal of debris, and towing away the remnants of what had once been vehicles carrying people through the streets of Miami, it has since been reopened. The Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office, while mentioning that no car pursuit was initiated, is still looking into the situation, they have detained two people in connection with the incident. The official stance seems to conflict with witness accounts, one of whom noted the graveness of the situation by saying to WSVN, "Anytime you see them having to get the saw, they can't pry it open themselves, it's not a good look. I was just hoping and praying that nobody got injured for real."
MDSO has not released the identities of those detained nor the condition of the pregnant woman following the crash; however, it has been confirmed that all injured parties are now in critical but stable condition, as NBC Miami reported.
