Early Sunday morning, a semi-trailer caught fire on southbound I-15 near Hurricane, leading to a coordinated effort from multiple emergency response teams. According to KUTV, the incident occurred just before 7 a.m. at milepost 20, prompting intervention from Hurricane Valley Fire & Rescue, the Washington County Sheriff's Office, and the Utah Highway Patrol.
The swift actions of the semi-trailer's drivers, who managed to detach the trailer from the cab, were crucial in averting a larger disaster. When the firefighters arrived, they observed the rear of the trailer "fully engulfed" in flames, "fully involved," as KSLTV reported. Despite the early hour, the multi-agency response was efficiently coordinated, mitigating the potential for a more severe incident.
As fire crews tackled the blaze, it was determined that the fire originated due to overheated brakes. ABC4 detailed that the flames had extended into the trailer's interior, but firefighters were able to quickly attack and contain the fire. No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
