Community spirit was on full display as the City of Saint Paul celebrated the unveiling of a new playground at Carty Park on July 26th, a much-needed addition to the neighborhood. In an era where screen time seems to dominate playtime, this fresh open space aims to provide a recreational sanctuary for children and families to gather, exercise, and enjoy the outdoors.
The project was a collaborative feat, according to the City of Saint Paul Government's social media post, with an "incredible team of volunteers and City staff" coming together to construct the playground in just one day. Leveraging a voter-approved sales tax increase, known as the Common Cent, the city was able to directly invest in the community's quality of life. However, let's not split hairs or forget to also give a nod to Delta Airlines and KABOOM!, whose partnership played a crucial role in bringing this project to fruition.
Delta Air Lines and KABOOM!, a national non-profit dedicated to ensuring kids get the balanced and active play they need to thrive, partnered with the city in this endeavor. This joint effort signifies how public-private partnerships can effectively function to improve local infrastructure, particularly when it comes to creating spaces that promote public health and child development.
In the heart of Saint Paul, Carty Park's facelift goes beyond merely aesthetic enhancement. The playground is set to become a hub for communal engagement, with hopes to positively impact children's social skills and physical activity levels. "Together, we built a new playground at Carty Park!" the city proudly proclaimed on social media.
