
A shoplifting attempt at the Safeway store on 1655 S El Camino Real in San Mateo turned violent yesterday afternoon, leading to the arrest of 32-year-old Shannon Householder of San Carlos. According to the San Mateo Police Department, Householder was confronted by store security around 4 p.m. for allegedly trying to steal about $130 worth of alcohol. During the confrontation, she reportedly used a bottle as a weapon against employees.
After a brief scuffle, Householder fled the scene but was quickly apprehended by officers at 18th Avenue and Palm Avenue, aided by surveillance footage and witness accounts. Stolen alcohol was found in her possession, and she was booked into San Mateo County Jail on charges of robbery (PC 211) and assault with a deadly weapon not a firearm (PC 245(a)(1)).
Police praised the swift action of responders and urged the public to report suspicious activity, reinforcing the "See Something, Say Something" initiative.
