On Sunday, a tragic incident occurred on Capitol Expressway, where the streets witnessed their 17th traffic-related fatality this year in San José, as reported by local authorities. San José Police Department's patrol officers were called to the scene at around 4:33 AM following a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian at Capitol Expressway and Senter Road.
The vehicle in question, a 2024 black Mitsubishi Mirage, driven by an adult male, was heading eastbound on Capitol Expressway when it encountered and subsequently hit an adult female pedestrian crossing the road. This event marked the 9th pedestrian accident in 2025. The driver stayed on-site and cooperated with the investigation, according to the San José Police Department.
The injured woman was initially transported to a local hospital bearing life-threatening injuries. Days following the accident, on Wednesday, her fight ended as she succumbed to her injuries. This confirmation came via the Santa Clara County Office of the Medical Examiner, who then informed the SJPD Traffic Investigations Unit Detectives of her passing.
The pedestrian's identity is withheld, pending release from the Office of the Medical Examiner. The San José Police Department continues to appeal for witnesses or anyone withholding information that could shine a light on this investigation, urging them to make contact with Detective Leslie #4264 from the Traffic Investigations Unit at [email protected] or 408-277-4654.
