The San José Police Department has apprehended three individuals in connection with a brutal assault that occurred on February 25. The suspects were identified as 18-year-old Joshua Velasco and two other males, aged 17 at the time of the crime. According to the official SJPD press release, the confrontation began outside a business on East Capitol Expressway and quickly escalated into a violent assault that left the juvenile victim unconscious.
The investigation, led by the SJPD Gang Investigations Unit, concluded with the arrest of the suspects on June 25. Multiple search warrants were executed at the residences of the suspects in San Jose and Gilroy, where detectives found gang paraphernalia and evidence linked to the assault. Despite the severity of the altercation, which necessitated placing the victim in a medically induced coma for weeks due to life-threatening injuries, the collective efforts of law enforcement have brought the suspects into custody.
The apprehended suspects now face attempted murder charges, with the two adults booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail and the juvenile held at Santa Clara County Juvenile Hall. With the ongoing investigation, the San José Police Department urges anyone with further information about the case to contact Detective Guevara of the Gang Investigations Unit. Information can be submitted confidentially and may lead to a reward through the Silicon Valley Crime Stoppers Program for details that result in an arrest.
