In the wake of the shooting, onlookers noticed a police squad car with small dents being towed away from the scene. However, police have yet to release the identity of the deceased man or discuss what caused the fatal shooting. A neighbor, Somnath Sen, relayed to KTVU how their house became an impromptu shield during the police action: "We were just asking what happened," Sen said. "They said there were gunshots or something. I did see the police officer. He had a rifle with him, and he was using my garbage can as a decoy and was aiming at the house."
