In a significant drug bust, the San José Police Department's Street Crimes Unit detained two individuals, Michael Mendoza and Anita Quiroz, both residents of San José, following the discovery of a stolen vehicle they occupied. According to SJPD's official report, the arrest was made last Thursday, when officers initiated an enforcement stop and found that both suspects were on probation.
Further investigation led to a probation search of the vehicle, which revealed not only stolen items but also a significant quantity of illegal narcotics. The search revealed a stolen disabled person parking placard, various stolen documents, and stolen credit cards. Officers didn't stop there, expanding their search to a related hotel room which yielded more damning evidence.
Inside the hotel room, the officers discovered approximately 62 pounds of methamphetamine, 2 pounds of heroin, a loaded and unregistered handgun, around $28,000 in cash, and paraphernalia indicative of narcotics sales. Also found were burglar tools and numerous documents aiding in identity theft. This haul unfolded a narrative of crime that went far beyond mere possession, displaying the signs of organized illegal activity.
Both Mendoza and Quiroz now face serious charges, including the sale and possession of illegal narcotics, firearms offenses, possession of a stolen vehicle, and identity theft. They have been booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail after their arrest.
