The San José Police Department is currently investigating a fatal hit-and-run collision that occurred last Thursday, marking the city's 15th traffic-related death this year.

According to a press release from the SJPD, the incident occurred late at night, around 11:05 PM, near Quimby Road and Rigoletto Drive. A 2004 Honda Accord with two occupants struck a 2017 Subaru Crosstrek waiting at a red light. The force of the crash sent the Subaru into a 2017 Nissan Pathfinder, which was also stopped.

The driver of the Honda Accord fled from the scene following the collision. The passenger, an adult male, was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced dead. The victim's identity is set to be released by the Office of the Medical Examiner.

The driver of the Subaru sustained injuries described as non-life-threatening. The distressing reality of this event heightens, as the death of the Honda's passenger increased the tally of traffic fatalities this year to an even 15. The SJPD is calling on the community for information about the collision and has provided contact details for Detective Aldinger of the Traffic Investigations Unit, who can be reached at [email protected] or by phone at 408-277-4654.
