Yesterday morning, residents of Scappoose were alerted to potential danger as the Scappoose Police Department responded to a report of a burglary involving a knife near Rolling Hills Drive and SE 9th Street. Although the suspect had fled before officers arrived, law enforcement launched an immediate search, which led to the discovery of an individual connected to a white Nissan passenger vehicle linked to the crime, according to a social media post by the City of Scappoose - Government.
The arrest unfolded without incident following a high-risk vehicle stop, the suspect was identified as 45-year-old Shane Bender. During the course of the arrest, Bender was found to be in possession of a loaded firearm an automatic knife, and a suspect white powdery substance confirmed to be cocaine by officers; additionally, there were suspicions that Bender was operating his vehicle under the influence.
The charges levied against Bender are serious and include Unlawful carrying of a concealed weapon, DUI, and Reckless driving, with possible additional charges pending as the investigation continues.
