Efforts to locate a 42-year-old hiker who vanished after setting out from a Jacob City campground in Tooele County have intensified, as local authorities and volunteers continue their search. According to FOX 13, Chad Burningham ventured away from camp on Monday morning and has not been seen since. A team that includes the Tooele County Sheriff's Office, Search and Rescue, and the Utah Department of Public Safety helicopter is diligently sweeping the area in hopes of locating him.
Rescue teams were prompted to initiate the search after Burningham missed his planned return to the campground at around 12:30 p.m., as stated by KSLTV. Described by officials as an average-height white male with facial hair, he was last seen wearing khaki shorts and either a blue or white hoodie. The search area presents its challenges, including vast distances and potentially severe elevation changes, depending on the direction Burningham may have traveled.
Additional resources deployed in the search include tracking dogs, which joined the resumption of the search on Tuesday morning. According to ABC4, further efforts will recommence on Wednesday, emphasizing the urgency and scope of the operation.
