In a move that solidifies Georgia's trajectory toward a significant tax overhaul, Lt. Governor Burt Jones has appointed Senator Greg Dolezal to join the Senate Special Committee on Eliminating Georgia’s Income Tax. Announced yesterday, Sen. Dolezal, hailing from Cumming and serving as Vice Chair of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, will play a pivotal role on the committee focused on reshaping the state’s tax system.
As voiced in a statement made by the senator, Sen. Dolezal stated, "I am grateful to Lt. Governor Burt Jones for appointing me to this crucial committee.” Spearheading the initiative to modify Georgia's tax code, Dolezal touted the General Assembly's record of fiscal conservatism, pointing out the recent reduction of the income tax rate from 5.39% to 5.19%. The senator also noted that, starting in 2026, a plan is in place to lower the rate incrementally by another tenth of a percent each year, according to the Georgia State Senate Press Office.
The Committee's goal is to present the state with a tax structure that favours personal and corporate financial growth, thereby sustaining Georgia's competitive edge.
