
SoCal residents can brace for another burst of heat today, as the National Weather Service in San Diego reports a continuation of higher-than-average temperatures for the lower deserts and inland valleys, reaching as much as 8 to 12 degrees above the norm. According to NWS San Diego's Area Forecast Discussion, "High temperatures will range from the 70s near the coast to the upper 90s to 107 for the Inland Empire with 115 to 120 for the lower deserts." Despite this sizzling outlook, cooler temperatures are on the horizon, projected to begin spreading inland as soon as Friday, bringing some relief that extends into the weekend.
For the coastal regions, although the marine layer is currently around 1500 feet deep it's expected to thicken slightly to somewhere between 1500 to 2000 feet during the weekend; meanwhile, come Friday and into the weekend, night and morning coastal low clouds are anticipated to creep further into western valleys, the high temperatures on Saturday will likely fall to around 5 degrees below average whereas the deserts are expected to sit around 5 degrees above average, according to the forecast high temperatures on Saturday will fluctuate from the lower 70s near the coast to the upper 80s to upper 90s for the Inland Empire and soaring to 110 to 115 for the lower deserts, per the NWS San Diego.
Looking ahead into next week, the NWS foresees only minor fluctuations day to day, with coastal and valley highs hovering a few degrees to roughly 5 degrees below average and desert regions maintaining a consistent warmth about 5 degrees above average. For those interested in specific numbers, "High temperatures will range from the lower to mid 70s near the coast to the mid 80s to near 100 for the Inland Empire with 110 to 114 for the lower deserts," as NWS San Diego reports.
Aviation conditions across valleys, mountains, and deserts should remain clear with VFR conditions and unrestricted visibility, accompanied by only a few high clouds at altitudes above 20,000 feet through Friday. According to the NWS, mariners can also expect smooth sailing with no hazardous weather on the horizon through Sunday however, as the region grapples with the current heat, a Heat Advisory remains in effect until 8 PM PDT this evening for several areas including Riverside County Mountains and San Bernardino and Riverside County Valleys among others, and a more severe Extreme Heat Warning is in place for the Coachella Valley, San Diego County Deserts, and the San Gorgonio Pass near Banning until the same time.
