
The Socorro Independent School District has just snagged the Outstanding status in the 2025 Award of Distinction Program by the Texas Educational Theatre Association, as per an announcement on the district's website. This prestigious accolade puts a spotlight on the district for its continuous push to not just promote but also firmly elevate theater education in its schools and the surrounding community.
Recognized for fostering high student performance and theater instruction, Socorro ISD has managed to quickly spread curriculum resources, embrace a diversity of voices and tales, and champion theater's transformative essence in education. As stated by Socorro ISD, Dr. Armando Martinez, the SISD Fine Arts director, expressed pride in this acknowledgment from TxETA. "We believe the arts are essential for providing a well-rounded education, and we are dedicated to promoting excellence in theater education," he said.
This tiered award ranges from Recognized to Exemplary, with the Outstanding status reflecting SISD's high level of commitment to arts education. Theater education in Socorro ISD is backed by purposeful efforts to supply state-of-the-art facilities, comprehensive professional development, and broad performance opportunities.
Dr. Josey Pickett, the Fine Arts facilitator for SISD, remarked on the district's dedication, saying, "This recognition reflects the talent of our students and the extreme dedication our theater educators have to consistently provide these students with high quality theater arts instruction," as per Socorro ISD.
