According to witnesses, the aircraft started to falter shortly after takeoff. Amanda Landwerlen told WSVN, "The plane was kind of going like this and banking, and then it started to lower." Frank Williams also witnessed the incident, adding that “The nose dove, she went into a spin and just came straight down.” Nguyen embarked on the flight from Wisconsin, already successfully reaching Indiana, with plans to quickly continue to Pennsylvania before the fatal accident occurred.
The 44-year-old pilot, originally from Vietnam, was a respected figure in the aviation community, founding the nonprofit Asian Women in Aerospace and Aviation with the aim of inspiring future generations. Nguyen's accomplishments in the field were extensive, including her role as chief pilot of Dragon Flight Training Academy, which she ran alongside her husband.
