Residents of South Shore are on high alert after a string of armed robberies has hit their neighborhood. According to a community alert issued by the Chicago Police Department, these incidents occurred within the 3rd District, specifically on the 7400 block of S. Phillips. The robberies happened in broad daylight; one on July 3, 2025, at around 7:30 a.m., and the second not long after, on July 7, 2025, at about 7:40 a.m.
The suspect in these crimes has been described as a Black male, aged 19-25, between 5'5" and 5'7" in height and weighing about 150-160 pounds. He is said to have light skin and is notably identifiable by a tattoo located on his left eye. During the robberies, he was seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and managed to quickly flee the scene each time after threatening victims with a handgun to forcibly take their personal belongings.
The Chicago Police Department has taken to strongly urge the public to stay vigilant. "Always be aware of your surroundings," the statement reads, emphasizing the importance of calmly reacting when faced with an assailant. They have also advised the community to remember any distinct physical characteristics of the suspect, such as "scars, limp, acne, teeth, etc."—details that can greatly help in the offender's identification and eventual apprehension.
Authorities are asking individuals to never to try to chase down a fleeing suspect, but instead focus on providing detailed information to the police. They've also recommended for those with video surveillance to save a copy of any footage that might have captured the incidents. If witnesses are present, it's advised to obtain their contact information. "Immediately dial 9-1-1 and remain on the scene when possible," the police alert concludes, ensuring the fastest possible response to these urgent situations.
