St. Bernard Parish motorists, take note: come Monday, you'll need to plan for some construction-related delays. According to the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, roadwork is set to begin on Eastbound and Westbound LA 46 (St. Bernard Hwy), affecting travel from Norton Ave to Battlefield Rd.
Starting on Monday, July 7, the eastbound right lane between Norton Ave and Weinberger Rd will be closed until July 14, every day from 7:00 AM until 4:30 PM, this lane closure is essential for the construction of a new turn-lane and for median work also to remove outdated pavement structures. Similarly, westbound traffic will lose its left lane over the same stretch for identical reasons and during the same hours. Motorists should expect disruptions and are encouraged to seek alternative routes or allow extra travel time.
The DOTD announcement clarifies that these partial closures are weather permitting and part of a continuous effort set to enhance road safety and traffic flow. Both directions of the highway will see upgrades including new turn lanes and median reconstruction aimed to streamline the movement of the daily swarm of cars and trucks that rely on this key artery.
Residents and travelers can stay updated on the status of the roadwork and any potential changes to the schedule by checking the DOTD website. Communication lines are also open for any inquiries or concerns regarding the construction activity that is a slice of the wider infrastructural improvement pie that Louisiana has been engaged in, striving toward a future where the reliability of roads can match the resolve of its users.
