Sharpen your detour skills, St. Charles Parish residents, because it's that time of year again. The roads are getting a facelift, and with any extensive maintenance comes a bit of temporary chaos—in the form of road closures. Over the next couple of weeks, expect a few more turns in your daily commute as local lanes succumb to the hum of paving machinery, patchings, and millings galore.
Starting today, July 29, Barriere Construction will descend upon various streets in Killona, including Schoolhouse Road and Adams Street, which will experience single lane closures, according to an official release from St. Charles Parish. These closures come as a part of the St. Charles Parish Road Maintenance Program's commitment to keep the asphalt under our tires smooth and serviceable.
The work doesn't stop there: tomorrow rolls out closures on Killona Drive; Thursday will see the likes of Short Street, Ben Street, and Railroad Drive taking their turns. The week caps off with Badeaux Lane East and Frickey Lane in Bayou Gauche on Friday. So, plan ahead or be prepared for an unplanned, albeit scenic, detour.
For those residing or passing through Destrehan, a particular stretch of Ormond Center Court will also be blocked off. From 150 Ormond Center Court—near that purveyor of pizzas, Rotolo's—to the frosty delights of Buddy's Frostop at 3001 Ormond Blvd, "a detour has been set up and vehicle traffic can pass through the area," the St. Charles Parish news release informed. And for those relying on the state roads for their travels breathe easy—for now, there are no closures to report.
