Summer roadwork is in full swing across St. Charles Parish, and it's bringing with it a slate of road closures that drivers will want to note before they hit the streets. With asphalt resurfacing work underway as part of the local Road Maintenance Program, a number of thoroughfares will be closed to regular traffic flow, while flaggers will be posted to manage the disruption.
Specifically, closures today, July 24, are hitting several Killona streets with Barriere Construction taking the helm as they pave Killona Drive between LA 18 and the dead end, Short Street between Post Street and Schoolhouse Road, Railroad Drive between LA 3141 and Schoolhouse Road, Julia Street between Killona Drive and Adams Street, and Ben Street between Killona Drive and Adams Street, paving these stretches they will all have flaggers in place for guidance.
The following day, tomorrow, July 25, will see the closure extend to Killona Drive for a second day, as well as to Schoolhouse Road between Short Street and Railroad Drive, 2nd Street between LA 631 and US 90 in Boutte, 4th Street on two separate stretches in Boutte and Luling, where milling work will require flaggers' presence. The work stretches into the weekend with Post Street in Killona seeing paving operation on Saturday, July 26.
An additional traffic note for those navigating the Destrehan area: Ormond Center Court has roadblocks in place from 150 Ormond Center Court to 3001 Ormond Blvd due to construction activity; however, a detour is available that allows vehicle passage. The St. Charles Parish announcement confirms the details of this, also indicating no state road closures to report at this time, providing some relief to drivers already navigating the local detours.
