A fatal accident claimed the life of a St. Helens man yesterday on Highway 20 near Sisters, as reported by Oregon State Police. Randolf Lee Burghart, 63, was found deceased after his Subaru Outback veered off the road and collided with a tree.
According to the Oregon State Police, the crash occurred yesterday morning, and despite the severity of the accident, it seems the traffic flow on the highway was largely unaffected, as the authorities managed to keep the roadway clear during their investigation. Burghart's vehicle, after it initially hit a guardrail, bounced off into the opposing lane where it met its tragic end. The detailed events that led up to the crash remain unclear at this point.
Oregon State Police, alongside local emergency services including Black Butte Fire Department and Sisters-Camp Sherman Fire Department, responded to the scene. The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office and the Oregon Department of Transportation were also present to assist with the aftermath and the investigative process.
